15 Mondaywear Options for Trinidad Carnival 2020

Trinidad Carnival 2020 is right around the corner, which means I’ve been having a lot more conversations that begin with:

“What are you doing for Mondaywear this year?”

With the advent of the formal Mondaywear trend in the early 2010’s, there’s been a steady rise of Mondaywear designers and no shortage of beautiful and incredibly unique designs for the choosing.

Re-wearing it a year later for a fete called Soaka in 2019. Honestly, one of the best fetes ever

What has been in short supply is a simple, efficient, and comprehensive way to find and compare our options. I’ve found that outside of the well-known, popular designers and social media (and you have to be following the right accounts), it’s not that easy to find other Mondaywear designers.

I have a feeling that a marketplace one-stop-shop may be in the works, but in the meantime, I’ve curated 15 Mondaywear Options for Trinidad Carnival 2020 that span the range from simple swimsuits to designs that you can easily expect to see on a runway.

I’ve organized the list by these sections which are explained further below:

  • Simple but Effective
    • In this section, you’ll find basic, ready to wear options. These include items like swimsuits, bikinis, and short shorts that you can easily (and more affordably) purchase last minute and throw on to go on d’ road. Before Mondaywear became the MASSIVE trend that it is today, this ‘simple but effective’ section was essentially what Mondaywear was. How things have changed…
  • Mon-Slay Wear
    • We’ve levelled up and we’re in a whole new ballgame now baby — and we’re here to slay. Expect to find sexy, beautiful cuts and materials in this section designed by Trinidad MondayWear designers. The main takeaway for me with the pieces in this section is that all of these options are not only perfect for Trinidad Carnival Mondaywear but can be incorporated into your closet afterwards as  swimsuits or bodysuits. That’s a win-win honestly!
  • Glitz & Glam
    • Shine bright like a diamond on d’ road with these options. From mirrors (yes, mirrors!), to sequins, glitter, and gems, this is the section for you if you want to GLOW!This section is my personal favorite for a mixture of wearability, style and va-va-voom glam.
  • High Fashion meets Carnival
    • This is perhaps the section I am most excited about because I feel like the designs here really push the boundaries of Trinidad Mondaywear and begin to enter into a category of high fashion and couture. If you want to make a statement on d’ road and get as close to a one-of-kind piece for your Mondaywear, then this is your section!
